Nest Officially Rebrands Dropcam

064-00016-ES-A-WGIn a move that surprised no one, today Nest unveiled Nest Cam, a rebranded (and slightly slimmed down) version of Dropcam.  There’s no real big changes here.  Just like the Dropcam Pro, the Nest Cam records 1080p video at 30 FPS with a 130-degree field of vision.

If you’re into paying a subscription fee to occasionally watch footage of your empty home, the newly minted Nest Aware service is rumored to have a similar price to the old Dropcam offering at $9.95/month.  Although nothing has been announced on this front yet.

The camera itself will cost $199.99 and is available for pre-order at Best Buy.  Best Buy?  Wait, are we sure that’s correct?  Can somebody go check if Best Buy is still in business?

If you’re the type of person that puts a band-aid over the camera on your laptop, this probably isn’t for you.  But if you enjoy knowing there’s probably 8,000 people watching you through a Russian website, you’re in luck!
